Moot at Gulf Wars

There will be at Rapier Moot at Gulf Wars!  On Tuesday, starting about noon, at the rapier field.  The Diamond Tourney will be going on at the same time, so we'll use a tent farther along the field.  Bring a chair, a hat, and a drink.  It's not listed in the online schedule, and I hope it will be listed in the site book.

What is a moot?  A moot is a chance for everyone interested in the topic to gather and ask questions, or share their thoughts and opinions.

You can read about the Pennsic Moot here: http://www.sca-rapier-news.com/2011/08/rapier-moot-at-pennsic-40-882011.html

New Blade Standards in Effect

The new criteria for what makes a blade acceptable for SCA Rapier and Cut & Thrust combat is now posted on www.sca.org, which makes it an official rule, effective now.   See http://www.sca.org/officers/marshal/combat/rapier/

Most blades currently allowed are expected to flex appropriately to continue to be allowed.

Kingdoms can still place additional restrictions on which blades are allowed.

Changes to the official rules/handbook won't happen for a few months, but the new text posted on the website supersedes the posted document.

KWAR Announced!

Copying from a Rapier Net post:

Greetings and Salutations:

The Shire of Ravenslake and the Thieves of Hearts are proud to announce that we will be presenting a combined event - the Known World Academy of the Rapier and the Known World Costuming Symposium near Chicago, Illinois from November 9-11, 2012.

Here's a link to our Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/events/211361568961372/?notif_t=event_invite

We will have more information forthcoming, but we have a great roster of teachers for rapier, cut and thrust, and costuming that is only getting better. Please join us for a weekend of fighting and sewing. We are also working out some other activities, such as a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago to look at their collection of period arms and armor and paintings and fiber arts of the period.

YIS,

Kai Tseng

PS - if you are interested in teaching, we could definitely use instructors. For the Academy of the Rapier, please contact Anton DuMarais (rapieranton@gmail.com). For the Costuming Symposium, please contact Sara Bailey (cricket340@gmail.com).

Rapier Peerage

Please note the following excerpt from the recently published President's Report:

Additional Peerage: Based on the results of the Census data, as well as an examination of the number of participants in the Knowne World, the Board of Directors intends to explore the possibility of creating a new peerage to recognize as peers those rapier fighters who meet the general requirements for a patent of arms and who demonstrate prowess in rapier combat and cut and thrust combat. Therefore, the Board is forming an exploratory committee to investigate heraldry, regalia, corpora changes and associated issues around creating such a peerage. The board expects the committee to make concrete recommendations with respect to creations of such a peerage. Any resulting corpora changes will be submitted for comment pursuant to the Board's standard policy. The Board invites the input of the general membership, Kingdom Crowns and officers as to the make-up of the committee.
